2. Get Involved
- Join other projects. Maybe you like novels? mysteries? We've got it all! Contribute poems, articles and stories to a project that really interests you.
- Join the conversation. Review other people’s work, give feedback, post a thread, join groups, and make friends!
- Don’t worry, people will definitely love you.
- Want a quick hit? Write a haiku in no time!
3. Jump right in and start your own project
- To get started on your project, click on any of the 'Start Your Project' links and buttons. Give your project a title, write a short teaser, and then a more detailed overview.
- Choose whether your book will be fiction or non-fiction, and a collection (like a collection of short stories) or a continuous work (like a novel arranged into chapters). Choosing appropriate topics and adding good keywords and meaningful tags will help other interested writers and reviewers find your project later on.
- Upload a cover image. Your book will get more readers and better feedback if you use a good picture.
- Choose who can participate in your project. If you want to stay under the radar, that's no problem at WEbook. Just set your project settings to "private." Want help? Ask other WEbookers to participate in your project. Send out project invites. If you want to write the book by yourself, but you want feedback from the community, click "All WEbook members" under PARTICIPANTS and "I will be the only writer" under WRITERS.
- Start writing!
4. Spread the word
- Invite other writers to contribute, we’re big believers in collaboration.
- One of the best ways to get the word out about what you're doing on WEbook.com is to use the "share" button throughout the site to share your Profile, Projects, or Submissions with your friends on Facebook or Myspace. You might want to Tweet about your latest stroke of brilliance.
- Encourage ratings and feedback. The best way to get more participants and feedback for your work is to be an active member of the community, offering great feedback to others.
5. Improve your writing
- Read writing tips and invite helpful feedbackers to trade writing advice. Rate the feedback others give you by giving them a "Compliment" if they've helped you out.
- Revise your work, and then revise it again and again.
- Find readers to give feedback on finished manuscripts. Create a revision plan, finish the book, copy-edit and proofread.
- Remember that one of the ways WEbook.com works so well is by writers showing interest in the work of their fellow WEbookers. We try to give users props and status for being a great writer or a great feedbacker, so you might find yourself with "Top Writer" or "Top Reviewer" status.
6. Submit for publication
- This page was about the Path to Publication, right? Well, let's get on with it.
- First things first, in order to get published on WEbook.com, it's a pretty good idea to have gone through lots of the above steps and then be sure that your project or "book" is, indeed, finished. It's possible that you've just penned the best American poem after Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven," but we won't be able to publish it all by itself. WEbook publishes finished books.
- Getting your book or essay published on WEbook depends on the wisdom of the crowd, who read, vet, and vote on their favorite books for publication.
- Every two to four months, WEbook will issue a call from the virtual rooftops for finished books to enter a "Vote." During a Vote, members of the WEbook community review the books in contention and vote on the books they think are most worthy of becoming published WEbooks.
7. Get out the Vote!
- This is the big time. You've finished a project or book, you tossed your hat into the virtual ring for your WEbook comrades to consider. Brave, indeed.
- Now, get busy building up some buzz. As we all know from life and high school, popularity helps. Pull out your megaphone and get your friends to WEbook to support your project by casting their votes. Keep in mind, popularity won't trump. Your book also has to be superb, but votes will help bring your work to the attention of the community, no doubt.
- Use the WEbook.com "invite friends" tool to let your friends know you're in contention.
- Post your book as a link back to WEbook.com on social networking sites.
- Spread the word!
8. WEbook will review the votes
- With heavy influence from the community votes and the books that end up in the top 10%, WEbook makes the final selections, and solidifies a publishing plan with the winning authors of the selected projects.
- The selected works will be published and marketed as printed books, eBooks, and even for mobile consumption. Mobile "consumption."? What does that even mean? Anyway, people can read your book on their iphone while driving. What's better than that?
9. Get the green light
- Go out and celebrate – you’re getting published!
- Review and execute publishing agreement.
- Get down to some more serious editing in partnership with the WEbook.com team.
- Look forward to a 50/50 profit share split on sales of your published book.
