Guess there are not many zombie (or horror) fans on here … pity. Yes, I am sure Max's name/connections helped him muchly. But it does bring attention to the sub-genre so that is a plus …

Disagree. Max Brooks is a very smart, very talented young man who would be self-publishing like the rest of us if his father wasn't a comedic genius (and one of my all time favorite, most respected influences - just like pretty much everyone else who was alive in the seventies, eighties and nineties were influenced by him). I'm not questioning his ability, and I'm not slamming him in any way. I can't wait to see World War Z and Guide to Surviving is a hilarious and fascinating book that really ignited much of the genre. But when you're old man is Mel Brooks, you can't overestimate the level to which that influences his fame.
