UB 40 were the first western band to perform in Red Square. Wham were the first western band to perform in China. Which would explain why they are still Communist ; )
Posted: 2/14/2010 6:57 PM PST
And also smuggling a lot of goods into the Soviet Union's Politburo. Things they couldn't get through the usual channels from the West. Like pirated films and television shows.
Posted: 2/12/2010 6:44 AM PST
That's not to say that the oviet Union liked this one bit. Yugoslavia was under constant threat of invasion by Soviet forces. Troops were present just a few miles over the Hungarian border. It could have ended up rather badly if Yugoslavia hadn't made efforts to gain the trust of the West, such as working towards uniting non-aligned countries, to show that they weren't as big buddies with the Commies as it may have appeared.
Posted: 2/11/2010 11:51 PM PST
Da, Comrade Mouth...
Posted: 2/11/2010 1:54 PM PST
Only because Tito and his buddies beat the Heer at their own game. Yugoslavia was the only country to liberate *itself*. Thus the USSR didn't have the leverage in diplomacy to play the "you owe us" card, and they couldn't strongarm Yugoslavia into being cowed by the Kremlin.
Posted: 2/11/2010 1:11 PM PST
Oh, I should know about Tito. I like any commie that stands up to Stalin. Though I do value Castro for playing the political game even if he did follow the USSR to an extent.
Posted: 2/11/2010 11:43 AM PST
He led Yugoslavia after WW2. They refused to be cowed by Russia, and set up their own Communist state, in open defiance of the Eastern Bloc. They even accepted Marshall Aid from the US. Stalin Feared Tito would stand up to him as the leader of communism. Mao had the same effect on Stalin, which showed itself in Russian reluctance to participate in the Korean war, only sending a few pilots to defend the Yalu river from UN incursion. And they wore Chinese uniforms.
Posted: 2/11/2010 1:24 AM PST
What a sad commie your are.
Posted: 2/10/2010 7:46 PM PST
Don't get me started... I'll save it for the political forums. Hmm, as a commie I should probably know who Tito is....
Posted: 2/10/2010 11:54 AM PST
Communism never worked. If it did, why did men like Mao, Stalin, Tito and Castro even exist? Capatilism is stupid, but it functions. We need something that works, and so far, this is the best we can do. Which is sad.
Posted: 2/10/2010 8:52 AM PST
I'm not closet by any means. But I do intend to critique it if I can find its main points.
Posted: 2/7/2010 2:44 PM PST
That should be interesting, especially written by a closet communist.
Posted: 2/7/2010 1:57 PM PST
Procrastinating writing a paper on Laissez-Faire Capitalism for history...
Posted: 2/3/2010 12:27 PM PST
That's not procrastination, that's common sense.
Posted: 2/3/2010 10:41 AM PST
Procrastinating reading this entire thread.
Posted: 2/1/2010 12:49 AM PST
Good for you.
Posted: 1/30/2010 1:48 PM PST
Writing a story that I know will matter even though I will lose the idea by tomorrow. Or, hell, writing down anything that has to do with that one story in particular.
Posted: 1/30/2010 12:23 PM PST
Got it. Thanks.
Posted: 1/29/2010 12:10 PM PST
Posted: 1/29/2010 12:34 AM PST
Would you pm me, too, Connor? I'd like to read it.
Posted: 1/28/2010 1:28 PM PST
Yeah I'm sort of a one trick pony. It's cyberpunk.
Posted: 1/28/2010 1:26 PM PST
I haven't read cyberpunk in so long. Assuming that it is cyberpunk, I haven't read it yet. It will be good to get away from pre-1914 nature poetry and bloody classic fiction...
Posted: 1/28/2010 12:27 PM PST
It is on WEbook, I'll PM the name to you so I don't break the ethics code we have established. I don't think I have enough short stories to get an agent yet, and I need a little practice on writing query letters.
Posted: 1/28/2010 12:13 PM PST
No. Nor do you need a query letter for the magazine trade … the work usually speaks for itself.
However, once you have an agent, they will sell your short stories for you :)
Posted: 1/28/2010 11:44 AM PST
I don't think so either. I hope your story gets published. Is it on Webook? Can I read?
Posted: 1/28/2010 11:42 AM PST
No I didn't think I needed one for short stories in magazines.
Posted: 1/28/2010 11:38 AM PST
I'm procrastinating ever getting anything I have written anywhere near the stage of publisher responses. Do you have an agent Connor?
Posted: 1/28/2010 12:57 AM PST
Good luck, Connor.
Posted: 1/27/2010 12:13 PM PST
Not procrastinating right now, just waiting for publisher responses.
Posted: 1/27/2010 9:50 AM PST
Kay Mr. Miyagi, lesson over.
Okay, so I'll just strip out the crap. I don't know if I can go back to my school next year. The other options are to get a job (No) or go to another school. All the other schools are well, crap, and all I want is for things to stay exactly as they are. I don't want to leave everything I have spent the last five years building behind, for nothing.
It suxs. It suxs mightily.
Posted: 1/26/2010 8:32 PM PST
Ya know Brian, if I didn't know any better, just reading your litany< I'd swear you were just a teenager, maybe 15 or so … way too close to adulthood and not feeling anywhere near mature enough to handle it … and worse yet … wise enough to know it. . .
All I can say is it sux to be you … but then again, I was you. Different play-list … same song …
So here is what you need to know … make your music work, or make your writing work, or make your abundance of intelligence into a marketable commodity … or you will wake up in 5 year increments for the next 20 years feeling as you do now … But the good news there is, even at the ripe Old Age of 35, those choices will still be there … so relax … try not to be too self destructive – no matter how much fun those opportunities are - and Enjoy the ride … It is a hellava show :o)
Ok philosophic waxing is over for the evening … back to editing … Yeah, that is what I am putting off ~!~

You sound like Peter. He told me that when I was in the hospital once.
"Your too pretty and smart to die! Well..... your too pretty to die!"
Posted: 1/26/2010 11:50 AM PST
They're unplugging you? You're gonna die?! You're too handsome and young to die. Er, well, you're too young to die.
Posted: 1/26/2010 9:16 AM PST
I'm not moving. It's a strange set of circumstances.
Posted: 1/25/2010 5:51 PM PST
Where they moving you too? Eastern Ireland?
Posted: 1/25/2010 10:58 AM PST
Not deported. Just... moving away, without actually going anywhere. And I still can't do anything about it. Tick tock tick tock.
I need to do something. Or else I shall be times fool too.

What I'm doing tonight is the following.
Rehersal for 'Our Country's Good'; Stage preformance at 7:30pm-10:00pm
Same as above,
Pdsa local shop 1pm-5:00pm
Pdsa same on Friday's and Saturdays except the rehersal bit.
Posted: 1/24/2010 11:43 PM PST
You're being deported? Where could they deport you to, Somalia? One of the islands in the South Pacific where they eat Irish food made of Irishmen?
Posted: 1/24/2010 8:13 AM PST
Ah, if only it were that kind of go. I guess it is a sort of exile. I hope I don't have to, but these things seem to happen to me.
Posted: 1/24/2010 1:36 AM PST
You can hold it for three or four months before you have to "go"? What are you, camel?
Posted: 1/23/2010 11:46 AM PST
What and look like an idiot, no thanks. I try to save that for weekends. I feel like I'm running out of time though. I mean it's what, four years, and I've managed to dampen any chances through stupidity every time. What are the chances that over the next three or four months before I have to go, I will be able to do anything?
I should have followed her onto that damn beach.
Posted: 1/23/2010 9:36 AM PST
Actually fessing up.
Posted: 1/23/2010 8:25 AM PST

Posted: 1/21/2010 6:49 PM PST
Not even close.

Loads of things. Making a band. Mastering piano. Homework. Revising. Taking control of my life instead of trying to coast through. Fixing my awful sleeping cycle. Writing something that means something. Plucking up some gumption. Writing a fuege. Fixing my ipod calander to better resemble my life. Cleaning my room. Somehow managing to tell the lady how I feel without talking about neck bolts (Neck-bolts = Futurama reference). Getting off this computer. Taking out my contact lenses. Being happy. Fixing my ridiculous under-representation of my intelligence in my schoolwork. Actually going out again instead of collapsing on the sofa and sleeping, when I should be awake, then lying in bed unable to sleep because I am wondering if my friends had a good time. Figuring out how to stop walking hand in hand with my angst. Figuring out how to stop fearing the future. Somehow managing to get someone to sew the button back onto my pea coat. Getting my hair cut before I start looking like a hippy instead of an emo. Getting "Pants on the ground" remixes out of my head (Yeah, I heard about that. Pretty funny.). Coursework. More Futurama references, or rather, more trying to figure out what the hell it is that I am trying to achieve by hopelessly dragging my self around over something that everyone else seems to find remarkably easy. I mean, what the hell is it that I am trying to do? How do I get myself into these situations? Stupid Luke. Yeah, I have to save Luke from his own stupidity too. Damn. I have enough trouble saving myself from Luke's stupidity. Changing the song that is playing (my least favourite Nirvana song - Sliver).
Is that enough for ya'?
