In short

  • I am a professional illustrator making art for a living.  You can check out my website at http://www.cottonstudios.com.

To determine pricing, I use the Graphic Artist's Guild Handbook for Pricing and Ethical Guidelines put out every few years.  It is considered the industries most reputable reference guide for illustrators and designers.

While I would love to make art for everyone, I simply cannot take on unpaid projects or the bank will come take my house!!

I will give a few estimates here on illustrating, so that you may have a reference point:

    32 page children's book -  approximately $8,800 per book plus 5% royalties

Cover art - Solely depends on final usage, who's publishing it, if it is international in sales, and various other factors.  Ranges from $1000 - $5000.

If you have any questions about typical negotiations between illustrators and writers, please feel free to drop me a line!

  • I wrote my Master's Thesis on the correct procedure for illustrating a children's book.  I have been published many times over, but not yet for a book.  I love to read, and children's books have been a passion on mine forever.  As a designer, I am also very capable of creating compelling book cover artwork.
