In short

  • My name is Maxine. I'm a 23 year old writer from Glasgow. I write contemporary Scottish fiction, poetry and prose. I like to write stuff that accurately represents Scottish culture and dialect so my stories can be a wee bit controversial or offensive at times, but I heard Liz Lochhead say that you have to 'write your own reality', and that's what I've always tried to do. I'm still pretty new to this Webook malarkey and have only recently started posted stuff but I'm quite curious to know what people think, so have a read if you want, feel free to leave some feedback and I'll be more than happy to return the favour.

  • It's not much of a claim to fame, but one of my short stories, 'Five Days On A Merry-Go-Round' has been adapted for an amateur short film. This is available to view at: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AicOB4U4EuY

  • I have so many, but my favourite book of all time is Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting. I swear this book is the most amazing book I've ever read and has inspired me in ways I could never have imagined. I think Irvine Welsh is a genius and if i met him I would stutter!
  • At the moment I'm reading 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' by Ken Kesey and a collection of poetry called 'Sweet, Sour and Serious' by various different survivors of abuse, addiction and mental illness.
  • On the train, on the bus, in the bath, on the pan, whenever i get the time. Anywhere there are books is a good place to read.
  • I am currently working on many projects, including a novel about young people growing up on the drug scene in Glasgow. I'm also working on a collection of poems and short stories.
