In short

  • Jeff Van Syckle has recently returned to the classroom as an adjunct instructor in Psychology after several years as a Multimedia Instructional Designer.

Jeff is ABD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and holds an M.S.Ed. from Penn. He worked for over 15 years as a therapist specializing in addictions and possibility-oriented therapy, and has taught courses for graduate and undergraduate students in Psychology, Research, Counseling, Conflict Mediation, and Organizational Behavior. Jeff has been an invited presented at regional, national and international conferences addressing such diverse topics as “Brief Solution-Oriented Therapy with Addicted Clients,” “What’s the Brain got to do with Teaching?” “Neomillenials: Who are These People and What are They doing in my Classroom?” “Effective Teaching with PowerPoint.” And, "Stumbling Around in the Dark: Life Lessons Learned from Addiction, Depression and Recovery."

Before all this ‘heady’ stuff, Jeff worked in a steel mill, the produce dept. of a grocery store, music stores, sold tropical fish, wrote jingles for commercials, produced a few MTV videos (in the early years) and created computer graphics and animation for TV. He spends an inordinate amount of time with PowerPoint and Keynote and is currently working on several novels, including one about a reporter investigating the theft of Sigmund Freud’s brain (actually one in a series of novels with this character - not me, the reporter).

Some people say that Jeff has too much time on his hands . . . . He prefers to think of it as Inquiring Appreciatively into life!
