  I am a retired firefighter living in a small village in South Wales. I am married with two grown up children. I am already a published author having a martial arts comedy fantasy novel entitled 'Rocky Seven' published by Starborn Books in 2003. It is probably not one of the best literary pieces of the 21st. century but it was fun to write and satisfying to know that I didn't have to pay for its publication. I did in fact receive a very small amount of money from its sales (probably enough to buy a couple of MacDonalds). I am also the joint author of a paper which was published in the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research; psychical research being a great interest of mine. This year I was fortunate enough to be a winner in a national children's story competition of which more details are given under 'My claim to fame.' I would recommend any aspiring authors to enter as many competitions as they can - you never know!

• My claim to fame: I have written a children's story which has won a national competition and has been made into a podcast narrated by Gail Porter. Part of the prize for winning the competition ( the other part being a trip to Lapland this coming December) was an all expences paid weekend in London to go to the studio and see the podcast being made. It was a great experience.
