In short

  • I once wrote 136,000 words in a month.  Admittedly, they weren't great words, but there you have it.

I'm not really on this site to write; I'm just a friendly, wandering critic.  I take writing seriously, so even if you're posting casually on here, you can expect a serious critique.  That being said, take anything I say (along with anything said by any reviewer) with a grain of salt. Take the advice that helps you and ignore the rest.

I'm only good with young adult and adult speculative fiction (sci-fi, fantasy, and horror).  I can't help you with poetry, books for kids younger than teenagers, realistic fiction, nonfiction, romances... you get the idea.  ;)

I like friends and I like messages, so feel free to contact me!  I respond to polite requests for reviews and anyone who wants to talk about writing, although I'm not really interested in poetry.  :)

Some of you might be wondering, "What's up with this random chick who prances into my writing space and tells me how to write?  For all I know, she could just be some bossy person with no writing experience whatsoever!  Why should I take HER advice?"  The truth is, I am probably bossy, but I do have writing experience.  I've penned six novels.  I have a smattering of short stories laying around under my bed.  I have a short horror story waiting to be published in an anthology later this year, and I've done several published ghostwriting projects as well.  I've been a part of a writing group for three or four years now and I've also been a member of the Online Writing Workshop for Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror (which I strongly recommend for people in these genres who are serious about their craft).  I have been working with literary agents on improving my writing for awhile now, too.

Much more importantly, I'm an avid reader.  I've got a pretty good idea of what reads well and what doesn't, so I hope this convinces you that I'm not just talking out of my rear end when I offer a critique.  :)

My Favorites: Reading and Writing

  • "Peter Pan" by JM Barrie is my all time favorite, and by extension, "Lost Girls" by Alan Moore (which is NOT a book for the kiddies or the closed-minded).  I also strongly recommend "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves" and Stephen King's "On Writing" to every author, new and experienced alike!
  • "New Spring" by Robert Jordan.  I've read it before, but I was feeling nostalgic.  Oh, Robert.  *sigh*
  • Curled up in bed, flanked by my fat, cuddly balls of kitty-love.
  • Tobias, from Animorphs.  Hells to the yeah.  Or Willow, from Buffy-- she got Tara AND Oz, two of the most lovable, sexiest characters to ever grace TV.  And she was a badass witch.
  • Edgar Allan Poe, Stephen King, and HP Lovecraft.  (No, I don't like horror, I have no idea what you're talking about.)  Robert Jordan and Neil Gaiman rock my socks.  I sort of like Kim Harrison, and I adore Melissa Cave.  I also used to really love Christopher Pike, Tamora Pierce, and KA Applegate, but that's my age showing.

I think that it bears mentioning that I seem to be the only one on this entire site who hates everything Stephanie Meyer writes, and I have a lot of excellent reasons why the young women around the world should be reading something better.  Ask me how!
