In short

  • I am a musician.  I have no aspirations to be a writer, although I enjoy it very much.  I tend to write mostly my opinions and thoughts about things, I have never attempted any fiction.  I went to college for journalism in hopes of some day becoming an Op Ed writer, but dropped out to pursue music more intently.

I seem to write in more absolutist terms than I think or speak.  I don't know why this is, I suppose I view a body of writing the same way I do a good album, as a statement/observation from a particular point of view and time.   So you can say I do concept pieces, that may or may not mirror what I "really" think about the subject.

I have a basic distrust of beliefs and the concept of objectivity, but i would describe my general life philosophy as the opposite of nihilism.  I think meaning and purpose and beauty are infused into everything around me.

My Favorites: Reading and Writing

  • "1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus" by Charles Mann
"The Inner Reaches of Outer Space" by Joseph Campbell
"His Masters Voice" by Stanislaw Lem
"A Perfect Vacuum" by Stanislaw Lem
    "Galapagos" by Kurt Vonnegut
  • I probably read less than anyone on this site; particularly less fiction - at the moment I am reading a book about the intricate chord changes throughout the Steely Dan "Aja" album.  I can count the number of fiction books I have read on both hands, this is why I think I might be a decent writer.
  • Stanislaw Lem, Joseph Campbell, Carl Sagan, Kurt Vonnegut, Charles Bukowski
