Long ago, in a far-away kingdom, a princess lost her diary.  Within its pages was a recipe for muffins she crafted for many weeks, with the hope of making them for her grandmother, the Queen Mother's, birthday.   One day she fell asleep while sailing down a quiet river, and the diary slipped from her hands and disappeared beneath the water.  Upon returning to the castle, she pleaded with her father to send a party to search the river for it, but he would not. She told him about the gift she planned for her grandmother, and how she must recover the diary or she would have no present for the upcoming party. His only advice was for her to visit the cook, who would perhaps have another, possibly better, recipe for her to use.

Her heart deeply saddened, she went to the cook, telling her as much as she could remember of the recipe.  But the problem, the cook explained, was not quite so easily solved by crafting a new one.   What the princess described could not be replicated without first recovering the diary.  The mix she had written contained something of extreme value, the cook believed, and for this reason she feared the diary to be stolen.
