Across an Ocean
The collection of poems in "Across an Ocean" were comprised over an extended period of time, which began after the author discovered writing to be an avenue to vent her frustrations and her feelings of sadness, loneliness, and lack of fulfillment, while living with a controlling spouse. Writing continued to serve a purpose in her life after she began it anew. "Across an Ocean" is the story of the growth and development of a previously dominated woman who experiences a reawakening of her spirit, after she becomes interested in, (then later becomes passionate about) writing. In poetry, and in narrative, she tells of: her struggle to maintain faith and sanity - before, during, and after divorce, while dealing with low self-esteem, depression; and, also, of the anxiety felt after experiencing drastic changes in her life-style, after having left her controlling spouse.
The poetry and narrative in "Across an Ocean" also includes dialogue between two writers that met on a poetry workshop on the Internet. In the early stages of their relationship they were merely student and mentor; but, after many email conversations, a more intimate relationship blossomed, although the student/mentor relationship continued.
The author would like to share her story with others in order they, too, might learn
more about writing and its rewards, and she hopes her story will inspire others. The pen is but the instrument; the imagination is the engine. It is never too late to start your engine.
