The French Revolution is littered with feminine influeneces, and not the least of which was Marie Antoinette.  Charlotte Corday, aka "the Angel of Assasination," sought an end to the bloody revolution raging through her country.  As a sympathiser to the more moderate Girondins of the provence regions of France, she looked on with horror at the bloody conflict that raged within the capital of Paris.

Follower of the likes of Rousseau and Voltaire, Charlotte Corday was shaped by teachers with great respect for human life.  She began to identify one man, Jean Paul Marat, as the principal tyrant and man responsible for the merciless slaughter at the hands of the guillotine.  True to the revolutionary fundamentals that a few (or one) must be sacraficed to save many, Charlotte Corday accepted as her mission to destroy the architect of the beheadings.

The facts of her deed are famous, but in this novel, I hope to explore more about Charlotte herself.  She is one of many extraordinary women that shaped the French Revolution and the evolution of democracy to come.  Her clarity and strength, even after the deed was done in the 4 short days before her own execution, indicate that she was of a sane mind.  She died thinking she had saved thousands, and fortunately before her own family and loved ones were persecuted by the merciless prosecution.  Less
