It was supposed to rain on my birthday. I remember my mother grumbling about the weather forecast all week, but when the day of my birthday rolled around the sun was beaming brightly with not a cloud in the sky. It was late August, but the breeze causing the spiraling of the multi-colored leaves in our front yard made it feel like October. She had the whole downstairs of our small Victorian home looking like a princess wonderland. I was very much into being a princess back then.

How young I was. How sweet and innocent and naive.

As I slid the magazine home and loaded a round into the chamber of my Glock 39 pistol, I look at myself in the mirror while I press my lips to the muzzle in a gentle kiss. This is my only comfort now, my best friend. Who needs Barbie? Gone were the innocence and naïveté. My eyes are hard, cold and emotionless, just the way I trained myself to be.

If only my mother could see me now. I cock my head to the side and laugh. She probably can and I hope she's smiling too because I'm on a mission. I'm going to find the ones responsible for ripping away my childhood ... and then I'm going to blow their fucking brains out.  Less
