Here's how it'll work: You continue our ongoing story by writing a chapter of no more than 500 words after reading the PRECEDING CHAPTER ONLY. I capitalize this because the temptation to read the whole thing will be pretty tough to ignore. You have disqualified yourself from the project the minute you open a chapter that does not immediately precede the one you are about to write, so deal with it. I will change the genre each time a chapter is posted to underscore the spirit of the project, but feel free to write in whatever genre you like. Call "dibs" by posting the word "dibs" or whatever on the next chapter as you begin to write it (so you don't get scooped), then "revise" it to post your finished installment. Please do not let too much time go by between calling dibs and posting your chapter, as someone may be waiting to read your piece in order to continue or end the story. We'll write to ten chapters, which will mean a story of no more than 5000 words that will theoretically be really fun to read, at least for the participants, once it's finito. 500 words does not mean just a slap dash scene thrown in - I want to see tight writing with as few grammatical errors as possible, people. Keep your position in the story in mind when you go to write, i.e. beginning, middle, end. Once it's filled up I'll start another one with new guidelines. Go.
