We visited my grandmother in Houston County, Tennessee every other Saturday while I was growing up.  I knew when the car pulled up to the back porch there would be homemade biscuit and country sausage left from breakfast waiting for me.  It didn't matter they were now cold...they were delicious.

I think Grandma loved making desserts the most and we never sat down to lunch that she had not made a cake or pie for us to enjoy.  My Uncle Jack Adkins and I would often finish off the rhubarb cobbler and ice cream on the screened in back porch as Grandma was doing up the dinner dishes.  No one has ever been able to replicate her tea cakes as she always began with a mountain of flour into which she made a hole to add the milk, lard, eggs, sugar, salt, and flavorings.  She would "let me help" as I was growing up and would give ma some portion of the dough to make gingerbread boys or a very large thimble to make cookies for a tea party.

I am leaving odd spellings as they were found in the old newspapers so if you encounter and odd sentence or unique spelling it maybe an error on my part but most probably was the way I found the text.  I am inviting other family members to add their favorites so that this collection of recipes can be carried down through the family for some time to come.  Less
