Duke is not willing to take this sojourn. Without an aircraft, he will have to cross half the United States through a devastated landscape and an alien general obsessed with his capture tight on his heels. He is more concerned about protecting his family and those he loves, until an emissary from one of five ruling Elder Races of the galaxy contacts him through a special form of dream telepathy. He learns that dark forces are on the move throughout the galaxy, and that the real threat is not to humanity alone but to all peace loving life in the galaxy.
