Eric Anderson is a young single father attempting to juggle caring for his six-year-old daughter Katie and teaching religion classes at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. He abdicates university teaching for a high school position, moving to the deep South city of Jackson, Mississippi, to teach at a local high school. When young Katie experiences anti-LDS slurs from the Baptist students in her first grade class, the elementary counselor recommends switching her to the only first class not full- the one overseen by a young woman by the name Miss Olive Rosemary Loaf.

Olive develops a friendship with Eric and his young daughter after discovering that they share the same religion. Eric, longing for the companionship of a wife and a mother for his child, finds that he is beginning to fall in love with the most uniquely christened lady in the southern United States. Can he convince Olive of his love, however?
