One of the reasons for getting a dog is companionship. A dog can help to make you feel more connected to the world, to help a person get out there and make more friends. That is, unless the dog in question is as unsocialized as you are. When I first got Stella, she was 6 weeks old. My husband and I didn’t want to take her right away. We asked if we could leave her for another 2 weeks. The sellers said no. We had fallen in love with her so even though she was the size of an underfed hamster, we took her home. We loved this little creature that was so small we were afraid we would step on her. In a couple of weeks, she was bouncing around the house and getting bigger everyday. She loved us and we loved her. It was a match made in heaven except for one small detail, if someone came to the house, she would launch into a fury. She snarled and barked and wanted nothing to do with those “other people” out there. This was to remain a constant in her life. After a few years she had what I called her “top five”.
