Face the reality -- a form of prejudice exists in our society, educational system, and our government. It's not against race, gender or religion, but against sexual orientation, human rights, and gender identity. Now, it's time to be heard.

This project will consist of collaborative literary pieces ranging from poetry and prose to speeches and essays - fiction or non-fiction. An important focus will be on helping others understand that homophobia and transphobia are present in schools, the workplace, and various environments. Homophobia and transphobia are both considered discrimination, both societal and systemic.

The participants of this will work in any or all three main goals that Project Reality strives to achieve:

-       Equality Education: We strive to change America's educational curriculum. GLBT people are a natural part of society, yet they are still treated as though they do not exist, or that they simply don't belong here. It is politically incorrect to speak of GLBT issues in the classroom; we want that to change. We want to push for homosexuality and gender identity to be worked into the curriculum as a natural thing. We want to work towards creating children's books aimed towards promoting homosexual as a natural thing, teaching kids from kindergarten to 5th grade and on to accept homosexuals as they accept anyone else.

In 6th grade, we want to push to have gender identity taught to students and teach them that transgenders are also normal and that it isn't wrong if they are a girl who feels they are a boy, or a boy who feels they are a girl. We want middle school students and high school students to be aware of this, and accept transgenders as they would anyone else.

We hope that in doing this, we will open the minds of new generations to come and help America become a better, GLBT friendly place.

-      Acceptance of GLBT People in Society: It is widely believed that GLBT people are abnormal and should be shunned and discriminated against. GLBT people are stripped of rights, most commonly the right to marry. The right to marry restricts the rights of GLBT people in several ways, more than people normally realize. We strive to eliminate those restrictions and show society that there is nothing wrong with the GLBT community. We are the same. We are humans, we love, we care, and we should be equal. This goal would be more likely achieved through speeches and essays. Prose and poetry would be better off in the third objective.

-     Show the Ignorant the Lives of the GLBT Community: In this final objective, we want to enlighten the ignorant minds of what really goes on in the GLBT community. We want to show them how we feel, how we are treated and how it affects us. We strive to use this goal to complete the second goal, and we believe that in showing them the hate that they show us, through our eyes, will better help us explain than simply talking to them or arguing.


This will be a long running project, a project that may never really, truly be finished. However, once a certain number of stories, poems, speeches and essays are met, we will gather the names of all the authors who contributed to help this happen, and we will send it to whoever we feel needs to see it to make it happen. The world will always be a difficult place, but we believe with enough willpower and the eagerness to fight for what we believe in, we can achieve our goals little by little. One day, our efforts and the efforts of others will come through.
