In the first book we met Grady, a man condemned, seemingly, to absorb the sins of those around him as they die. He knows there is an afterlife, but he never sees it. He is a doorway, who can never see the home behind him.

His father was a Sin-Eater and his grandfather and on and on back throughout history. But how did Grady end up following in his father's footsteps? How did he become what he is today?
