"A poem should rhyme"
Proclaimed the old sod
Hovering o'er her student, Todd.
"A sonnet is the way to go."
"But why?" asked Todd;
"How do you know?"
"Why can't I break rules?"
"Why can't I write free?"
"What force of poetry dares restrict me?"
She considered a moment;
And then simply said;
"That's the way we've always done it"
"So get it into your head!"
And so Todd studied;
And so Todd mourned;
For something within him yearned to be born…
