The Beautiful Rose
This collection of poems is about the war and its impact on society, people, lives and much more. It looks at different views of war too. One of the poems in this collection - 'The German Planes' is dedicated to My Great Grandad Wilfred Garner, who died age 102.

I just read JJ2mtn blog. Horseshit. I am going to make a general statement and I mean every fucking word of what I say. This site is where creative ideas take bloom. It's the test bed of aspiring creative people. We sure as hell do not need the scholarly tone of rebuke from people like JJ. The polishing and editing of each creation comes later, much later. So why don't you fucking lit majors just take the day off?
I remember coming home from Viet Nam and having professors like JJ lecturing me about my sins while he sat it out with some bullshit deferment. Your involvement with the war was what? Cowardice hides behind many faces. It's fine with me, but just stay where you are. Your pontifications on your take of war is somebody's editorial page rewritten over and over again. As a soldier, we could have won that war in a week. Win the son of a bitch! and go about business. We are not a fucking day care center for the world. Hit us, we devistate you. Message...fuck with us... you are in the hurt locker. We left Southeast Asia and another six million people perished. We don't hear about that. When we leave Iraq and Afghanistan how many people will die in the wake of our tampering with their way of life in the alien democracy we want them to have?I
Every war we get in comes with a Marshall plan of the worst kind. War= destroy your enenmy...as many times as you have to. how many of our kids are killed trying to build schools, public projects, water and electrical utilites like they have never seen before? The object lesson is never learned.
.
JJ... just smoke some dope, read from Mao's litle red book, and invent your own reality...repeat it often enough and people might believe you. Do me a favor...get off Webook

Just read a couple today, but I'll be back. Perhaps the grammar is poetic - I do like raise her eyes instead of rise. in Not My Beauty for instance. Clever poetic adaptation. Enjoyed these. Want to read more.

I love war poetry. Many people can writ it down in a file, but it never exspresess true emotion.

Ahhh, yes, this poem is about war in general - so wearing gas masks is not relevant to the storyline - its for effect - so it might not be about WW2 In its entirety.
you are a powerful writer! you've done your grandfather proud! keep it up!

This is very sweet. I feel akin to something like this. My grandfather also worked on plans in WW2. He was forced to stay stateside after the simultanious death of his two older brothers. I wish that I had been able to talk to him about his life so much more, but unlike the long life of your grandfather, mine died when he was only 84.
I look forward to this collection :)
