At times, the superiority of the of the human soul falls apart like a dying star. It grows first into a glowing sphere of selfish pursuits and indulgent desires, exhausting all kindness and respect of life in its avaricious hunger. It then implodes into a black hole of infinite density that swallows anything in its path, even the light of hope. The resulting chaos shows itself in the form of violence, hate, discrimination, abuse, and all the hurtful actions that shake our sense of safety and our belief in human advancement and spirituality.
In spite of the grim reality of this decadence, retaliation need not assume that same form of soulless evil. So instead of shooting back with bullets, intoxicated by the venomous vapors of wrath-induced reflexes, one can just as easily pour out all that contained rage in the sober but incandescent frame of poetry. Verses can cut deeper than the edge of a sword; words can puncture the membrane of villainy like fiery pellets, rattling the cage that holds compassion prisoner in the hearts of those who bring harm to others.
This is poetry with an edge of anger, in response to human deeds that fire up the liquid essence of our tears and bring them to the boiling point, the point where instinct overcomes reason.
All writers are welcome to participate and pour out their most heated words against the crimes of our era, the insensible actions that affect us, directly or indirectly, physically or emotionally, and prompt us to fight back with the prophetic voice of a poet.
Less
