They are in the control of the Caretakers, who they obey without thought or question.

James and Cassandra are two rebels on the run when they stumble on a young boy who seems to be alone. Though they are in hiding, they take the boy into their care. As they attempt to find a way to build a relationship with him, they learn the secret of the Disea- and what could be the key to overthrowing the system which controls their lives. At the same time, they also find the answers to the hidden questions of the past and finally become freed from the bonds which have held them- and so many others- for so long.
