After hearing his father describe his past life to him on his death bed, Dustin McColeman, a young man of only twenty, is forced into maturing before he is ready. Alone, with the exception of his girlfriend, Sarah Gibbs, he is left with the responsibility of spreading his father's ashes on the shore of that special place that he called "Dollar Pond". With no written documentation of it's existence and known only to his father, (Harry McColeman) and to a friend of his who disappeared many years ago (Lester Jackson), Dustin thought that reaching Dollar Pond would be the toughest part of the task his father requested of him before taking his last breath.
That was until Dustin found Dollar Pond and that finding it was a lot easier than grasping the reality that his father's long lost friend, Lester hadn't disappeared much at all. A simple change of identity and change of career empowered Lester to fool Harry into thinking that he was no longer a part of his life. Knowing about Harry's illness the entire time he had it, and though from a distance, watching Dustin grow and knowing that Dustin wasn't quite ready to be left to fend for himself, Lester took Dustin under his wing, and passed secrets on to him that he needed to find enough inner strength to not only become independent, but to start a family of his own. The only problem was it took Lester's death for Dustin to realize how strong and independent he could be....... it was now his turn to pass the torch down to the next generation.
