Have you ever overheard a little piece - or a big piece - of a conversation that was just far too interesting to ignore? These little real life experiences can often serve as great inspiration for fictional stories...and other times, they're just fun to repeat.

This project will focus primarily on dialogue, although exposition is fine; feel free to set up the scene, briefly describe the characters speaking or the the character(s) listening to the conversation. Your submission doesn't necessarily have to have a point - i.e., a solid conclusion - and often, the piece is better served if the reader walks away saying to themselves, 'what the hell was that about?'

Please remember - the focus here is on *DIALOGUE.* Which means your submission should focus on a conversation, not necessarily a plot. If you're having trouble getting yourself in to the groove, just imagine sitting at a coffee shop and listening to the verbal exchange at the table next to yours - let the scene, the people, and all other surrounding factors fade in to the background and just focus on the conversation taking place.

The person listening to the conversation is just that - a person listening to the conversation. Your piece should not include any dialogue from the person whose point of view the piece is written from.

*NO PURE DIALOGUE* There is an excellent project just for that - coincidentally called "Pure Dialogue 2." I don't intend on stealing any of the project leader's thunder. Thus, submissions consisting of nothing but dialogue will be removed.

And yes, submissions based on fact are more than welcome - and are often more funny than anything any of us could come up with, regardless of how creative we may be.
