Vigilance tells the tale of a world where superheroes had existed, but after a tragic accident, were outlawed and then eradicated in an all out war with normal humans.

This is a story more in the vein of Unbreakable than X-Men, where the heroes’ powers do not manifest with a lot of outward flash; they are just as powerful, but more subtle and subdued. Those few heroes who did managed to survive the conflict were either incarcerated in special holding facilities or driven into hiding. The Hero War was concentrated mainly in the U.S., and the rest of the world tightened its laws regarding super powered persons, but did not pursue them with military force. Any super power entering into a U.S. territory or airspace is subject to immediate arrest.

The story centers on the exploits of one American hero who was never caught – Trace – and his struggle to find out how the war began. It is also the story of an insane Supervillain who attacks the U.S. Government in order to get the superhero laws repealed. The villain wants the U.S. to free the Powers so that he can do battle with them once again.  Less
