Said you’d never stray.
You talked about our children,
That we would have some day,
Like it was gonna happen,
Like nothing could stay
The force that brought us together
We were meant to be this way.

I promised you forever.
That I would always stay
No matter what the problem
I’d love you anyway
I made true on my promise
Dreamed of you night and day
I thought we’d always be together
That we were meant to be that way

You walked out on your promise
You left me all alone
Like you wanted someone better
Someone better than you’d known
Like I could never please you
Like I was not enough
You promised me forever
But today was just too much.

Your promise is broken.
Along with my heart
I thought you meant forever
My world’s ripped apart
Each day is a struggle
To hide the hole inside
I’ll move on with my life
But I’m shattered inside

I thought heaven was with you
It’s hell without
This is worse than death
To live without you
To know that you doubt
That I was ever worth loving
This is just too tough
No matter what I’d done right
It’d never be enough.


I look back on our past now
I can finally see
The whole of the damage
That you did to me
If we’d been together
My heart would have died
With every hurtful word
You’d say in your pride
Like you were always better
Better than me
Like I could never measure
To goodness in your eyes
Like you were so perfect
But that is just a lie.

Now I’ve promised forever
With someone who’s true.
He’d never betray me
Like someone like you.
He’s holding me forever
Safe inside his heart
