Welcome to the October Challenge.

Thanks for joining us this month, as we take a journey through your greatest fears. It'll be uncomfortable, it'll be nerve-wracking, and totally, totally brilliant.

Maybe, you're a little afraid of the dark? Perhaps it's spiders that give you the heebie-jeebies🕷? Clowns can do it for some people too 🤡.

Or maybe your fear is a little more... complex. Does that pesky Bolshephobia you've had since childhood prevent you from wearing furry hats, even on the coldest of winter days? Or, did your Basophobia scupper your dreams of joining the circus?

Whatever you - or your character - is afraid of, we want you to write us a 1,000 word story or narrative about it. Your character needs to have some kind of interaction with that phobia, but it need not be direct. That's the great thing about phobias, sometimes even the mere thought of the phobia is enough to trigger a bit of Phobophobia.

Here's a fun list of phobias to get you started (or help you identify):

It's also okay if you would like to invent your own phobia, just make sure you give it a name.

If you're up for the challenge, our winner will be awarded either a juicy $25USD Amazon Gift Voucher, or a hardback WEBook from the WEbook store (

 Good luck and happy writing!

The (somewhat) Fine Print:

WEbook will shortlist 6 entries. From which, WEbook will pick one that is the most deserving of this month's prize.

We'll also highlight each story on the blog and see if anyone tries to buy it. If they do, we'll tell them it's a real deal and that they'll have to pay for it!

Note #1: WEbook may not take into account the user ratings when deciding who will win the challenge. We read each submission carefully, and decide the winners based on our own judgment.

Note #2: There is sometimes a word count discrepancy between MS Word and WEbook's word count editor, causing authors' entries to appear to go a few words over the limit. Don't worry about this! We are aware of the issue and a few extra words will not affect our consideration of your writing.

Note #3: Only one submission per person, please (you can, however, revise up until the deadline - in fact, you should!).

Note#4: These terms and conditions together with any specific rules set out in prize draw notices (as defined below) are the rules and apply to this WEbook Challenge.

Note#5: The Challenge is open to all registered users of WEbook, and runs from 5th October 2017 until 10 pm EST on 5th November 2017.

Note#6: In the event of any dispute regarding the rules, conduct, results and all other matters relating to a competition, the decision of WEbook shall be final.

Note#7: By entering the Challenge, you hereby warrant that all information submitted by you is true, current, original and complete. WEbook reserves the right to verify the eligibility of all submissions.

The rules are simple, yet the results should be anything but.

Good luck and happy writing5
